How Tall is 60 Inches?

How tall is 60 inches

60 inches isn’t too hard to guess. It’s only five feet or 2-2/3 yards tall. For some countries other than the United States, 60 inches is the same as 1.52 meters.

But how exactly do you measure 60 inches by eye? If you don’t have several rulers or a tape measure on hand, then you could at least use everyday objects that measure close to five feet as a visual reference in your mind’s eye.

Today, I’ll help you do just that. I’ll show you 8 common objects that measure five feet tall.

2 Standing Lamps

2 Standing Lamps

Like many household appliances, standing lamps, or floor lamps, come in all sorts of shapes, sizes, and finishes. Some can be as tall as seven feet, while others are significantly shorter than the average person.

On average, standing lamps measure exactly 60 inches tall, including the shade. So, if you have a standing lamp in your living room, take a good look at it and memorize its height. It’ll get you somewhere close to the 60 inches you want to measure.

If all you have are table lamps, you should know that they typically measure 30 inches in height. So, two of them would get you to the five-foot mark.

Medium Christmas Tree

Medium Christmas Tree

Every family has its go-to Christmas tree size. Those with taller ceilings might be able to fit a seven to ten-foot-tall Christmas tree in their homes. However, the average homeowner or apartment dweller might look for a medium-sized one.

Medium-sized Christmas trees range in height from five to six feet tall. So, you’d only need one to measure 60 inches in height.

Did you know that the tradition of decorating Christmas trees started in Germany back in the 16th century? Those who couldn’t bring trees indoors used to build wooden pyramids.

Sedan

Sedan

Everyone has seen at least one sedan in their lifetime. Regardless of its make and model, sedans typically have a set height of 59.5 inches. That means you would only need one of them, plus half an inch, to get to the 60-inch mark.

As for the car make and model that sold the most in the United States in 2021—the Ford F-150, it surpasses the 60-inch mark by over a foot. Just something to keep in mind in case you decide to use a Ford F-150 as a height reference.

1.5 Bathtubs

1.5 Bathtubs

Bathtubs are a great place to just lay back and relax after a hard day at the office. However, many of you guys might not be familiar with the exact dimensions of a bathtub.

The average bathtub measures about 46 inches from the floor to the top. So, you would need roughly 1.5 bathtubs to reach 60 inches in height.

The shortest bathtubs you can find are a mere 14 inches tall. If that’s all you have in your home or apartment, you would have to imagine stacking four of them on top of each other to reach slightly over 60 inches.

2 Couches

2 Couches

Not all couches are built the same. Some couches are huge and have super-fluffy upholstery, while others have hard wooden frames that are noticeable while sitting on top of the flat cushions.

On average, a couch measures 30 to 36 inches tall from the floor to the top of the backrest. To get to the 60-inch mark, you would have to stack two of them together and subtract a foot if you’re using taller couches.

The terms “couch” and “sofa” are used interchangeably, even though there are technical differences between the two. One of which is that sofas have a pull-out bed system, whereas couches don’t.

Dog Crates

Dog Crates

If you belong to the 38.4% of Americans who own a dog, then you probably have a dog crate for your dog to sleep in. If you don’t own a dog or have a crate, dog crates come in different sizes.

Dog crates can measure between 14 and 45 inches tall. That means you would need to stack about four XS crates to get to 60 inches in height. As for XXL crates, you’d need 1-1/3 of them.

The ideal dog crate is one that is six inches longer and taller than your dog. So, if you have a 30-inch-long, 24-inch-tall Golden Retriever, you should consider getting a crate that’s at least 36 × 30 inches.

1 Broom

1 Broom

Like any household cleaning tool, brooms come in different sizes to suit users of different heights. Taller people should typically aim for a standard broom that measures 55 inches long, 5 inches lower than 50 inches.

So, if we were to use brooms as our measurement reference, we would need one standard broom or two short brooms to get the full 60 inches. On the other hand, it would take just 1-1/3 super-long brooms to get to five feet in height.

2 Tower Fans

2 Tower Fans

Tower fans are a lot sleeker than the traditional pedestal fan. While they may not be quieter, users won’t have to worry about getting their finger jammed in the grid and risk getting it chopped off.

On average, tower fans stand 30 inches tall, though there are some models that are 36 to 40 inches in height. So, like many of the objects listed above, you would need about two of them to get to 60 inches, give or take a few inches.

However, if you have an extendable pedestal fan at home, the top of the grid might measure be 50 inches off the ground when fully extended. You’d only need to tack on an additional ten inches on top of that to get to five feet.

Conclusion

And that’s how it’s done, folks. Using any of the ten items listed above, you can easily measure 60 inches without a ruler or tape measure. This will come in handy the next time you want to measure out the beds of a new garden or determine where to place furniture.

If you think this article is helpful, I’d appreciate it if you could share it with your friends on social media. Also, I’d love to hear what other objects you think would be useful references for measuring 60 inches.
