It goes without saying that finding the right shoes for babies, toddlers, and even preschoolers can be a challenge. It becomes increasingly more confusing when you add in the fact that different shoemakers follow different sizing standards.
However, if you follow a shoe size chart, finding the right shoe size for kids, whether you’re buying domestic or importing from Europe, is more than manageable. In this guide, I’ll explain how to find the right shoe size for your little one by showing you 3 different kids’ shoe size charts.

Manually Measuring You Child’s Feet
To get the most accurate shoe size for your kids apart from bringing your kids to the store is to trace their feet. To do this, you will need a blank sheet of paper, a marker, a ruler, some ribbon, and one of your child’s feet.
- Lay the sheet of paper flat on the ground
- Have your child place one foot on the sheet of paper, laying it as flat as possible
- Use the marker to trace the outside of your children’s feet. You don’t have to get the spot in between their toes.
- Align the ribbon along your child’s traced footprint to measure. Measure how much ribbon you used—that is the total circumference.
- Use the ruler to measure the longest distance between the heel and the toes.
- Use the ruler to measure the widest distance from side to side.
Knowing the total length, width, and circumference will allow you to shop for children’s shoes without taking your child to the department store.
