In metric terms, 5 feet (60 inches) is equal to 1.524 meters or 152.4 centimeters.
While these figures give you precise measurements, they don’t exactly inform you of how long or tall 5 feet actually is. To understand how tall 5 feet is, we will have to look at and memorize objects that measure 5 feet tall.
So, join me as I go over 9 items that are 5 feet tall or close to it.
Bathroom Stall Panel
If you step foot into a public bathroom stall, you’ll notice that there are at least four walls surrounding you (hopefully). While the height of those stalls may vary from public restroom to public restroom, you may find that they stand at a typical height.
On average, toilet partitions are between 55 and 64 inches tall, though some can be as tall as 72 inches (6 feet). If you come across a tall bathroom stall partition, you would simply have to reduce its height by a foot (you can use these references for things that are 12 inches) to get to 5 feet.
Sedan
Even though some vehicles may fall into the same classification, their exact dimensions may vary vastly between make and model. When you look at sedans, they’re not enormously tall, but they are usually up to the chest of the average 5-foot-9 person.
But if you look at specific sedans, such as the Hyundai Accent and the Mazda 3, you’ll find that they stand at around 1,435 and 1,450 millimeters. Converted to standard imperial, you get 56.5 and 57.1 inches, which is mere inches away from the 5-foot height we’re trying to measure.
Broom Handle
Everyone is acquainted with brooms, even if they clean their floors using an upright vacuum or a robotic vacuum cleaner. Even if you have a stationary vacuum cleaner, you would still need to gather dirt with a broom and push it within the vacuum’s sensory range.
Whatever the case may be, you probably know that brooms vary in length. On average, a broom will stand around 50 inches in height. This particular broom model is 55 inches tall. Alternatively, if you took the broom’s 15-inch brush width, placing 4 of them next to each other would give you a total width of 60 inches.
Half a Basketball Hoop
Do you know why it’s so difficult to dunk? Because the hoops in the NBA are 10 feet off the ground. Meanwhile, the average person can jump around 16 to 20 inches vertically, despite all of the exercises they do to improve their verticality.
In any case, if you wish you measure 5 feet, all you would have to do is imagine cutting a basketball hoop’s post in half. Don’t have a basketball post you can cut in half? Why not take 6 size-7 basketballs to give you a collective width of around 66 inches?
2 Ping Pong Tables
In the past, I’ve spoken about how ping pong tables can help you measure 16 feet in length as well as 8 meters. However, when measuring height, you would have to take a look at how far up the legs keep the table off the ground.
An official regulation-size ping pong table should stand about 2.5 feet above the floor. So, if you took 2 ping pong tables and placed one on the other, they should give you a total height of around 5 feet, give or take a few centimeters.
2022 Subaru Forester
The 2022 Subaru Forester is an SUV that has a ton of cargo space. There are also 6 trim options to choose from with minimal differences between them in terms of measurements. However, what they all have in common is how high the roof is (without the rails) off the ground.
This spacious SUV stands about 67.5 inches off the ground (68.1 inches with the rails), which is about the length of a no. 2 pencil beyond 5 feet. Another way you could gauge 5 feet using a 2022 Subaru Forester is by measuring the front track—i.e., the distance between the front wheels.
Standing Lamp
Like many things you can buy for your home, a standing lamp will vary in size. Some standing lamps can be as tall as 6 feet, while others are designed to stand on top of a table. However, if you look for standard standing lamps, you’ll find that they typically stand at the same height.
The right height for a standing lamp should be between 58 and 64 inches, though slight variations in either direction shouldn’t be an issue, according to Eyely. The Nelson LED Floor Lamp stands 59 inches tall—just the height of a single hockey puck shy of 5 feet.
1 Mini Step Ladder
Using step ladders as a measurement tool can be unfair since they come in all sorts of sizes. According to the American Ladder Institute, step ladders can range from 4 to 20 feet tall. So, you could measure 5 feet in height by standing a footlong Subway sandwich on top of a 4-foot stepladder or dividing a 20-foot stepladder into 4 equal pieces.
However, if we were to follow Werner’s suggestion for finding the perfect stepladder, you should extend your vertical reach by 4 feet while standing on a stepladder. Since most single-floor homes’ ceilings are 9 feet above the floor, the ideal stepladder should measure 5 feet tall.
Holstein Cow
There are several factors that affect a cow’s total height, which is measured from the ground to the top of the animal’s hip bone. For instance, injecting growth hormones into cattle can cause them to grow several inches larger than their wild counterparts.
On average, the Holstein cow, which is one of the most popular cattle breeds in America, will grow up to 58 inches tall or 2 inches short of the full 5 feet. On average, a dairy Holstein cow will weigh around 580 kilograms, which is about the same as roughly the same 1,000-pound-plus weight of an adult bull.
