7 feet is the same as 84 inches or 3-1/3 yards. It’s also the same as 2.1336 meters, which is easier to understand for our non-US friends.
So, how do you measure 7 feet without the help of a tape measure? You can estimate what that would be, but if you have everyday objects you could use as references, measuring 7 feet won’t be that much of a problem.

7 Footlong Subway Sandwiches
What easier way to measure 7 feet than to use 7 objects that measure 1 foot? If you’ve been to Subway recently, you can probably recall how long a footlong sandwich is. Spoiler alert: a footlong Subway sandwich measures pretty close to 12 inches.
And since 12 inches equals 1 foot, you would need 7 of them, give or take a few bites off a sandwich, to reach 7 feet. Believe it or not, footlong Subway sandwiches measure pretty close to 12 inches in length before the toasting process.
2 Baseball Bats
Did you use to play baseball as a child? If you did, then you probably have a good idea how long a baseball is. However, according to the MLB, a baseball bat cannot measure longer than 42 inches.
That means if you could get your hands on a 42-inch baseball bat, you would need precisely 2 of them to get to 84 inches or 7 feet. The average baseball bat used in the professional league is between 24 and 34 inches, with many players opting for 32-inch baseball bats.
NBA Player
Did you know that in the NBA, there are 19 players listed at exactly 7 feet tall who are playing in the 2021-22 season? And there are 10 players listed who measure at least 1 inch taller than 7 feet, which is absolutely bonkers!
Since Nikola Jokić was the most recent NBA player to win league MVP, we’ll use him as our reference. Without his shoes, he measures 6 feet 11 inches, but have you ever seen the man shoeless before? On the court, he stands pretty close to 7 feet, making him the perfect reference to use to measure 7 feet in height.
2 Tubas
Tubas are probably one of the most ridiculous brass instruments. They’re tremendously large and awkward to hold, and nobody in the history of the world has ever genuinely fallen in love with a tuba player before.
However, when it comes to measuring 7 feet, tuba players will have the last laugh. A tuba measures 3.5 feet tall on average, so it would take just 2 of them to get to the 7-foot point. A large tuba can stand 8 feet tall, have over 60 feet of tubing, and weigh just over 100 pounds.
3.5 Medium Suitcases
Suitcases come in all sorts of sizes. Carryon suitcases typically measure about 13 × 18 × 7 (W × L × D), while XL suitcases can be 22 × 32 × 14 inches large. However, if you’re not a common traveler, you probably have a medium-size suitcase in your closet or garage right now.
If that’s the case, you should know that its dimensions might be close to 17 × 24 × 10.5 inches, meaning you would only need to stack 3.5 of them to get to 7 feet. Alternatively, you could envision lining 5 of them in a straight line to get slightly beyond the 7-foot mark.
5.5 Bowling Pins
There are pretty strict rules regarding the size of a bowling pin. According to the USBC, bowling pins used for league play must measure 15 inches tall with very little wiggle room. So, when measuring 7 feet tall using bowling pins as a reference, you would need close to 5.5 to get there.
Technically, it would take 5.6 of them to reach 7 feet exactly, but halving a bowling pin is simpler.
5-1/4 Large Pizzas
If you’re anything like me, you’re a huge fan of pizza. And the larger the pizza, the better. When it comes to large pizzas, at least the largest that most pizza restaurant chains and pizzerias sell, you’ll know that they measure 16 inches across.
With a large pepperoni pan pizza with extra mozzarella in your mind’s eye, you can get to 7 feet by placing 5-1/4 of them together. The additional ¼ does not refer to taking off 3 slices from the 12-slice large pizza—you’ll have to cut off ¼ of its diameter.
King-Size Mattress
You should know that the dimensions of a king-size mattress isn’t the same in every country? For instance, in the United States, a King-size mattress measures 76 inches wide and 80 inches long. Meanwhile, King-size mattresses in the UK are 150 × 200 centimeters (60 × 78 inches).
Whatever King-size mattress you use as a reference, it’ll get you pretty close to the 84-inch mark or 7 feet. Just imagine placing a credit card at the end of the mattress, and you’ll get to 7 feet easily.
9-1/3 Lunch Trays
Lunch trays are probably a source of nightmares for many people who studied in the United States. Who remembers cold meatloaf and mashed potatoes with a poor excuse of dinner roles and gravy? At least school pizza was decent, but that was only if you were hungry.
What you might not know is that your old lunch trays probably measured 9 inches wide. So, to get to 7 feet, try imagining that you’re stacking 9-1/3 of them on top of each other widthwise.
